Short Term Effects Caused by the Federalist Papers

Short Term Effects Caused by the Federalist PapersThe term 'federalist papers' comes from a very interesting debate in the Constitutional Convention of 1787. The Federalists were those who favored a strong central government with a strong presidency. The Anti-Federalists were those who favored a weak central government, limited powers and were willing to compromise on some key issues. The Anti-Federalists argued that the Federal government should only have the power to tax. They said that this will give it too much power. This is quite true; however, there is a difference between taxation without representation. If a tax is not paid, the person that is being taxed cannot vote for who will collect the money. There are some people that believe that our government has gone too far away from representative government. They argue that our representatives no longer represent the people, which is not true. We just have too many different special interest groups to control. It is also possible that the Anti-Federalists were not representative in their ability to lead. They did not show up, which most people did not feel they could depend on them. This is also not true; the President has all the executive authority.Another point of contention is that democracy is important. Some are quick to throw out the idea of democracy. Although it has been tried, the results have been poor. If it was not properly thought out, there was a lot of tension and people did not get what they wanted out of the plan. There was also a big problem with no representation. The only people that know what the population wants, are the people in Congress. People that are in the government do not understand that the people make the laws and that's why we have representatives.Representatives are there to represent their constituents. Representatives are not elected because they are known for being an expert on a particular subject. In fact, they are not elected to be an expert on anything at all. Their job is to follow the laws of the land and people that are representatives are there to make sure that those laws are followed. If you study the term 'short term effects', you will learn that this is very important. Just because something is common and accepted does not mean that it is good for the people. In fact, it is the people that make the laws and we need to take care of them, no matter what. Let's not destroy the ideas of representative government.
